Lowell, Massachusetts has a few interesting things for train fans to check out. BM steam engine #410 has been restored and sits along the road side with it's companion combine car #1244. Check out more about #410 at B&MRR Historical Society's website.
There is also the National Streetcar Museum at Lowell, a satalittle museum of the Seashore Trolley Museum in Kennybunkport, Maine.
You can see old framework for the ex-ROW over the canal right along the remaining railroad tracks. There is also a few spurs left, and some other fun artifacts along the remaining ROW (which is for the trolley line that runs in the city). Some of these points are on my New England Railroad map. Lowell is definitely a place to check out for any rail fan.
I only got to check out #410, the museum was closed and the trolleys were not running.
