LHRR #259

Leeds Hill Railroad #259
0-4-0ST Porter

R. Duck Locomotive Works
Build Completed: January 2026

This is an engine that I added to my roster primarily because I wanted to try out the kits that R. Duck Locomotive Works sells. At the time, this was one of two they produced in 45mm gauge and  the only one that would have historically been in New England.

The Build

This kit is designed really well. The parts fit together snug and the instruction booklet is easy to understand. When done, the locomotive's wheels turn, side rods move properly, firebox door can be opened, and throttle and brake actually move in the cab. As these are simple wooden kits, the engine is not powered, but I plan to remedy that by building a powered boxcar that can push the engine along the tracks. The headlamp and Kadee coupler are modifications that I made as I built my kit. I also added weights to the water tank as I built it.
